Remote access to data stored in Disk Farm
Data stored in Disk Farm can be accessed remotely. Currently, Disk Farm includes FTP server. Disk Farm FTP server uses GSS authentication mechanisms for client authentication as described in IETF RFC 2228 "FTP Security Extensions". The server can use one of 2 underlying security mechanisms: Kerberos V5 and GSI (GridFTP). This server should be used for remote access to the data stored in Disk Farm.

Currently, there is Disk Farm FTP server running on Fixed Target Farm on fnsfo.fnal.gov port #2812 in Kerberos mode. Users should be able to access their data using any standard Kerberized FTP client.

Disk Farm Data Recovery
Disk Farm is a distributed data storage system. It is designed to organize the space available on individual nodes of a computing farm into a storage for temporary data.

There are several disk farm installations on production farms at Fermilab. Their purpose is to complement, not to replace other data storage systems which should be used for permanent data storage. Data stored in a disk farm instances at Fermilab is not being backed up and can be permanently lost or become temporarily unavailable due to a failure of a disk or a farm computer. Therefore, disk farm should be used only as temporary storage of reproducible data, or data with limited expected life time. Disk Farm users can use data replication feature to increase availability of data stored in disk farm.
